Documents to upload - asking for a second police certificate
 

I will try and keep this brief, I now have ITA and currently getting my documents in order. I didn't think there would be many surprises but, there is a space for 2 police certificates.

I was born Algeria and lived there until 2005. I have not been back since for any great length of time. From what I can now tell I will need a police certificate from Algeria as well, although it is not very clear. In my profile where I upload the documents it just says 'police certificate 2' - there is no clue that they want one from Algeria, I am just assuming that this is the case. I have my Algerian passport still and birth certificate. I have been frantically trying to call and email the Algerian consulate in London but they don't really respond. I don't think I have the necessary documents in order to get the certificate anyway and even if I did, I would be amazed if the consulate would issue them in the 55 days I have to submit my application.

Please advise! I would hate it if this one thing brings down my whole application. I have to upload something in this field and will write a letter of explanation but this is not ideal.

Thank you. Yes have tried the embassy and they weren't much help. Will try the Ministère de la Justice as well but doubt they will be much help either. Certainly not in time.

I see I might be able to get away with submitting documents supporting I have made every effort to get one and that might work.

But regardless I don't think I have the correct documents for them to issue me with the certificate, I don't think it is even possible.

So I might not get Pr because I can't get a police certificate from a county I haven't lived in for 15 years? ☹️

Unfortunately CIC do expect people to have police certs (as per the link above, they suggest you get your police cert early if you think it will take longer than the 60 days given), there's no way around that unless you can prove that you have tried your best. Just contacting them won't cut it though, you'll need to show you've really tried. Any family members left in Algeria that can apply for you?

Why do you say that? You say above you have your Algerian passport and birth certificate?

You're honestly overreacting, if you follow the procedure given in the link above and are still waiting for your police cert when the deadline is up, you just submit proof and a letter giving details.

​​​​Dealing with Algerian authorities is not the same as it is in the UK....

I'm sure it's not. But over 1000 Algerians have already been granted PR this year, so it can't be impossible!

Edit: so apparently applying via post takes 3-4 weeks, but you can also apply in person. https://www.algerian-consulate.org.u...ier-judiciaire

I am assuming those people were applying from within Algeria or more recently left.

Yes, been trying with these guys but they don't respond (and I am no where near London) - and unfortunately after a house move I cannot find my consular registration card.
