Default Do I need a new SIN?

Hi, I just thought of something to do with my sin.

I came over last year on Aug 24th on the working holiday visa through (stupidly expensive) Bunac, I got a Sin straight away and cant remember if it had an expiration date or not? Im still here, but now on the IEC - going to get my spousal sponsership completed this year. Just wondering, is the Sin number I had last year still valid or should I really be applying for another one? I have been at the same job since April when I imagine the sin was probably still valid.

I have no way of checking my Sin card as my wallet was stolen earlier in the year.

Hopefully somebody knows?

Thanks!

The only time you change SIN is when you go from a temporary to a permanent resident. The SIN you were issued when on the BUNAC would have started with a 9 and this will still be valid with your new visa. You can ask Service Canada for a new card with the new expiry date if you need it.

Thanks, this answers everything! Im not so bothered about the physical card as I know the number.

Thanks again

Even though it's the same number, you still have to go to Service Canada with your new work permit in order to get a new expiry date, and keep it valid. At least, I had to.

I'm guessing if the OP's Bunac visa has expired, so has his SIN. He'll need to head to Service Canada with his new WP to reactivate it.
