Apply in good time before you travel and I'm sure you'll be fine.

Do make sure to go to the official site and not one of the rip off merchants!

Applying for an eTA is a simple online process. Most applicants get their eTA approval (via an email) within minutes. However, some requests can take several days to process if you're asked to submit supporting documents. It is best to get an eTA before you book your flight to Canada.

As the MOD's have mentioned use the official site only. The rest are all scammers:
https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration...anada/eta.html
It is only 7 dollars Canadian as you have mentioned and should not take long to process.
I did one when the system was first introduced and it arrived back via email within a few minutes.
