Dependent following - how does it work?
#1

Hi
I am Canadian and sponsored my husband some time ago. He is now also a Canadian citizen and we live in Canada.
At the time we filled out the sponsorship forms for him, we also included his daughter, who still lives in Scotland with her mum, so that we could keep her possibilities open for future.
She is now thinking of coming here for university (she visits a few times a year and loves Canada). I cannot find any information on how we actually activate or re-start the rest of the process for her.
She did her medical etc at the time we submitted everything. Maybe this would need updated which is fine. But I am not sure if there is a form we have to fill in to start her process. She’s kind of in a pause at the moment - all of her paperwork and medical was the same as my husbands right up to the point when he had to send his passport to London and she didn’t as she was not coming over at that time.
Has anyone been through this and brought a dependent over later who was already part of your original paperwork ?

She is 14 now, so just planning ahead. She was probably about 6 when we applied. As part of the spousal application we had to list any dependents and have them do a medical, in order for them to be considered in future (as long as they decide to come when they are still within the age/still at school rules). So she did the medical and everything else the same as my husband, up to the point where he did the visa/passport bit in London. So she is registered in the system effectively, but I don't know what we would do next. It was basically a case of include her now, or you can't do it later. I assume the original application is just pending somewhere but I really don't know.
If I search the Canadian immigration site or any other site, I can find all of the information to tell me what to do for what we have already done.... just not what would be next.

sorry - I should add that she just did not send her passport in. Because we listed her as not coming with us, they did not ask for it, so that the clock would not be ticking for PR when it wasn't relevant - if that makes sense

OK so you just need to apply for her from scratch, as you didn't apply for anything for her.
So your husband should sponsor her as a dependent child, but not yet, as she won't be moving to Canada soon enough to maintain her PR status. Ideally he'd apply about a year or 18 months before she actually wants to move.
HTH, good luck.

Thanks so much for the reply - much appreciated!
