Question Criminal Checks for Work Permit

Hi,

I am in the process of applying for a Canadian Work Permit. In the past I have had to supply Criminal record checks/certificate (ARCO).

On the current application in MyCIC there seems to be no mention of providing such police check certificates.

Do we still need them? Has anyone else recently being granted a work permit without the criminal check?

Many Thanks

I don’t believe I had to provide a criminal record check when I applied for my work permit via ICT.

Normally not required for a wok/study permit or visitor HOWEVER you could be asked to submit one if requested by IRCC or you have been convicted of an offence and has been declared on the application form.

From the IRCC website

In most cases, when you apply to become a permanent resident of Canada, you and your family members need to get a police certificate.

We may also ask you for one if you’re coming to Canada as a:
  • tourist
  • student
  • temporary worker
  • caregiver
We use police certificates to find out if you have a criminal record. They help us make sure you’re not inadmissible to Canada.
