Default Are credit scores checked?

I am applying for PR under the Common-Law Partner route.

Are credit scores checked? My Canadian partners is okay - although a little poor. Mine is better, but still the kind of score you'd expect with moderate credit card use.

Can this affect application?

no they don't check you credit score. But you do have to provide proof that your sponsor is able to afford sponsoring you. I am not sure which parameter are used to decide if your sponsor is wealthy enough or not. I assume it's a simple budget calculation: is his income large enough to provide shelter, food, clothing, etc for 2 people either living in one apartment or in two separate apartments.

Really? i havnt heard that one before...Where does it state that?

i thought that the only requirement was that they have to sign an agreement to say they will sponsor you for X amount of years...Also as long as the sponsor has not been on benefits before, you should be ok....

I do remember a poster on here going through spousal being asked for credit information and other details about income....

Page 19 of the Sponsor's Guide refers to the Financial Evaluation form IMM1283. It says:

"you must prove that you have an annual income that is at least equal to the minimum necessary income to support the group of persons consisting of

- yourself and your family members, whether they are living with you or not;
- the person you are sponsoring and his or her family members;
- every other person you have sponsored in the past[....;]"

If you have a closer look at the form you will see that you have to provide CIC with a budget explaining how much you have earned throughout the last year. CIC will then evaluate based on the number of people you are supporting with this income if you have enough income to sponsor or not.

There is no minimum income requirement required for spousal / common law partner sponsorship.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/guides/3900E.pdf

This condition does not apply if you are sponsoring only
·your spouse, common-law or conjugal partner who has no dependent children, or
·your spouse, common-law or conjugal partner whose dependent children have no children of their own, or
·your dependent child who has no children of his or her own

Your credit score and your income have got nothing to do with each other.
A person can have a crappy credit score whilst having lots of money, and vice versa.
