Couple but two separate EE profiles
 

Hello All,
I have been reading this forum for over a year now, and it has given us lots of valuable information, thank you All for that.
This is the first time I am asking a question, as I cannot locate any post which has the answer.
We are at the stage of setting up our EE profile. (Both of us have done the IELTS test and the WES assessment)
My question is: does it make sense/ is it allowed to open two separate EE profiles, while adding the other as dependent?
My common-law partner gets less points for his education, but as he is younger, he get more points in total. According to the CRS tool: 407.
I am older, but have Master's degrees, points according to CRS tool: 405
So one of us will need a job offer to get an invitation.
There may be the possibility that my current company can sponsor me, but we are at the very early stages of discussing it, and I don't just want to rely on them, but want to actively look for job.
Is it possible to open two separate EE profiles, while adding the other as dependent, and whoever gets a job offer first, we use that EE profile for applying for PR (abandon the other profile)? Any advantages/ disadvantages?

I get the feeling you are only allowed one profile as this will cover the whole family. This should be for the strongest candidate.

I would advise awaiting the responses from the other members as I'm a newbie in these matters.

Thank you G0ldie, I have googled this and have read conflicting answers, so I thought I will ask the experts here.
The Canada immigration site says:
If you’re married or have a common-law partner, one of you must be the main or principal applicant. This person will submit a profile and list the spouse or partner in it.
Your principal applicant should be the one of you most likely to:
meet the eligibility requirements
earn the most points in the selection factors (if applying under the Federal Skilled Workers Program)
earn the most points in Express Entry’s Comprehensive Ranking System

But it does not really state it is not allowed to have two separate profiles.
Based on the total points, my fiancée should be the principal applicant.
But what if my company decides to sponsor me? At the moment it looks more likely than him finding a job in Canada soon.

I think that you've answered your own question. There should be only one profile with spouse tagging along.

What I am struggling with is who is the stronger candidate.
Based on the current points: my fiancée.
Based on the discussions I am having with my company: me.
If we go with my fiancée's profile, and I get a job offer, I assume we can add that to his profile, which would give us enough points for ITA, but he would be still the main applicant?
I cannot get my head around this, sorry.

Unfortunately neither 405 or 407 will be enough for an ITA as you’ve already pointed out, so if you’re more likely to get a job offer then even if your points are slightly lower, you’re still the stronger candidate.

If he is eligible for a job then it makes sense to have him as the main applicant. You will need to see and have a look through if you can boost your CRS score maybe via IELTS/relatives in Canada? Have you done the tests yet and what scores did you come out with?

If the dissuasions you're having with your company concern an intra company transfer, why not pursue that route in parallel with your partner's EE application?

With an ICT you'd get a TWP and partner an OWP. Your own EE would score more in say a year based on the job and Canadian experience.

No relatives for any of us unfortunately.
His IELTS scores are 9/9/9/9
Mine: 9/9/8.5/7.5 even if I re-sit my exam and get a 9/9/9/9 not sure it would increase my scores significantly.

Hi Novocastrian,
Yes, it would be an ICT, and then I would pursue the TWP route. But I don't really want to rely 100% on my current company as things normally happen very slowly there, and would like to pursue my job hunt independently of how that discussion is going. That's why I thought I would set up my EE already now and start with my job search.
Or if I am mentioned as a dependent on my fiancée's profile, can I job hunt, can I create an independent profile with the Job bank?
Also I was thinking, if I am job hunting and get an interview with a Canadian company, it looks better if I can say that I've already have an EE profile, but maybe I am mistaken.

Anyone can come over as a visitor to job hunt. I'd still advise pushing the ICT route while your partner is also job hunting.

With respect, unless you are sure you are giving the correct - and official answer, please don't make statements that could impact someone's application without checking yourself and supplying the official link to back up what you are saying... or at least say "I'm not sure" or "I think" - as you did in your first response.

Hello and welcome to BE!:welcome:

What is it you both do for a living.. what are your professions? Will either of you need Provincial certification / licensing .. i.e. are your professions regulated ones requiring compulsary certification / licensing? Are either of you in Skilled Trades - the EE points requirement are lower for Trades. You said you got your WES assessments done, so what are your scores for education equivalency?

If you could give a breakdown of your scores overall, (for each of you), perhaps someone could offer other suggestions to increase your points.

Are you open to moving anywhere in Canada (some Provincial Nomination programs are easier to apply to than others)?

I am an Intellectual Property Management Software Consultant/ Sales Engineer/ Product specialist. NOC: 6221
I have 3 Master's degrees, over 10 years work experience in the same NOC, my skills are transferable, I could work for any software company as a sales engineer, it does not need to be in the IP field.
However I lose a lot of points because of my age: 42 years old.

My partner is a Duty Manager in a Leisure Center. NOC: 0513, over 3 years experience in this field.
He would probably need Canadian certification for pool management, life guarding, first responder, etc.


So our dilemma is that although his scores are higher a little bit, but we feel that my qualifications and work experience are more versatile and I do not need any extra regulatory certification. I would probably have higher chances to find a job, but we will be both job hunting (plus I also want to pursue the Inter-company transfer possibility).
We are open to move to any province, (although we fell in love with Nova Scotia this year on our recce trip; but we are flexible).
