Default Confused about apllication for PR card

Hello everybody,

I just found on the CIC web site the newly published guide (IMM 5445) and application
(IMM 5444) for a Permanent Residence Card for existing permanent residents, and I am
CONFUSED about the instructions.

1. Do I have to list all my addresses, employment history and absences from Canada
for the past 5 years even if I landed only in August 2001? How relevant is this
information to my application?
2. What do I write as my absence from Canada prior my landing in August
3: December 1997 – August 2001- 1305 days absence, reason – not landed yet? Not
even applied for PR till 1999? Not even though about applying for PR till the
end of 1998?
4. Since I landed in August 2001 I couldn’t possibly accumulate 730 days of presence
in Canada! l lived hear for only 395 days. But the guide specifically says that
if I didn’t accumulate 730 days – I didn’t maintain the residence. Does it mean
that my application will be denied and I will be deported? Should I wait till
August 2003 before submitting the application? Guess not! But the people who
wrote this guide should’ve included special instructions/clarifications for
people like me. I bet I am not the only one in asking these questions.
5. I haven’t worked for about 7 months – being looking for a job. Should I write
“temporary unemployed in the employment history?
6. Again, I’ve been in Canada for only more than a year. I didn’t know anybody whose
occupation is on the guarantor list before I landed. As such I can’t provide a
guarantor. What do I then write in the Statutory Declaration in Lieu of
Guarantor?

Fear not! Your situation is clear, and the dire warnings do not apply to you since
you have been here continuously since landing. It seems that the directions for the
application are confusing but they are really only interested in the time since your
landing. Jim Humphries, former visa officer
