Confirmation of Permanent Residence + eTA

Hey Everyone.

I'm from the UK, I've gotten permanent residence approval and recently gave my passport to Canadian Visa Agency, who sent it to the Canadian embassy, who sent it back with....

Form IMM 5688 Confirmation Of Permanent Residence form (x2)

What an anti-climax. There's nothing in my passport even though I got a brand new 10 year one. I've not got two questions.

- Did I need something in my passport. Or does it not matter as I'll get a PR card in Canada.?

- Do I need an eTA even though I ve these documents.

Your's sincerely,

An underwhelmed permanent resident of Canada.

If you are a UK Citizen you don't need a visa counter foil in your passport.

But your landing documents do not mean you are a PR yet: you have to travel to Canada and become a PR at the border.

You don't need an eTA: COPR documents should suffice:

I have a Confirmation of Permanent Residence (CoPR) and will travel to Canada. Do I need an eTA?

Make sure you travel to Canada before the expiry date on your COPR.

Cheers Snowy560. That helps immensely . Might get an eTA just in case. $7 CAD isn't much

I have read n other forums that because the immigration systems and eta systems are not linked your flight operator has no way of knowing you have an COPR, and people are being refused boarding.

the airline staff done know about the immigration process, and the airline cant issue tickets if they think they are going to get a fine for bringing you to the country when you dont have permission to travel to it.

i'd pay the $7 even if this is bogus just for peace of mind.
