Default complicated situation with banks and passport

After I sent my passport and bank account certificate to the Embassy (which is in another country), I received mail from them asking for proof funds in a Canadian bank. I checked with RBC and HSBC in Canada, they do open accounts for non-residents, but they need a copy of passport certified by canadian embassy. Now as my passport is at the Embassy (another continent), I only have another expired passport (exp in 08/2004). I also have a local alien resident certificate (I'm not the citizen of this country). So at this time I have only 2 docs - expired passport and valid resident certificate - which can be certified, but I wonder if an expired passport is acceptable. The bank mentiones that all copies must be valid documents. If I ask the embassy to send my passport back, it will take a long long time....What is the best way out in my case?

It's easy, you can send 2 different pieces of ID as I did. RBC is not that strict and they accept it. for example, you can send:

1- Certified true copy of your Birth Certificate
2- Certified true copy of your Driver's License.

Good luck
