Completing the B4 forms
 

I preparing my B4 personal effects forms ready to leave the UK. Could someone tell me - do I need to present all of the information on official canadian immigration forms, or could I (having completed the front sheet), simply print all of the subsequent information straight from a spreadsheet?

Could you tell me which sheet you use for the front sheet. B4a or B4e? Also, have you decided which shipping company to use?

I think the B4-04e is the front sheet as it has importer details, t&cs etc on it. Also it has only 8 lines for good. As I already have nearly a thousand items I don't want to do 125 of those! LOL.

We are moving with a company called Robinsons (from Oxford) as they were by far the best (but not quite the cheapest) company we have met - we also tried Britannia (who didnt bother to quote), Pickfords (who seemed ok) and PSS.

All round professional, or so they seem! If you want more info, my wife dealt with that stuff, I can get her to reply to this and give more details on why we are going with them....

Thanks for the info Mark. What sort of items are you shipping? We are shipping a lot of small items packed in relatively small boxes (shoe box size etc). We have already packed most of our stuff into about 50 boxes. Did you do the same or did the moving company pack all your lose items? We have estimated a value for the contents of each box, i.e. 1 estimated value per box (which we have been told is okay). Is that how you are doing it?

We are having the movers repack everything - as they say "We do it every day, you would do it once in your life". Customs may be a bit easier if the boxes are mover packed (apparently).

I am taking approximately:

250 CDs, 50 DVDs, 250/350 books (that's the third I couldn't part with), two sofas, all beds (plus linen etc), tables chairs, all clothes (though my wife would dispute this having just gone through her wardrobe with my invigilating), all toys, most kitchen items, crockery, a couple of computers and an MGB - basically anything we think would be cheaper to ship than re-buy. It amounts to one 20 foot container plus another for the car (though that is cheaper).

May I ask how much the 20 footer is costing please?

Anglo-pacific is coming to give us a quote .... anyone any thoughts on them?

We got a quote for £3.9k and got it down to about £3.5k, the car is cost about £1k.

Hi my wife and I recently came through ST. John`s New Foundland August 1st. We have a 15month TRV extension. We have released our 10 2x2 boxes and 1 garden lounger from storage. Brittania say 4 months for it to arrive. London to New Brunswick, £975 incl. plus Canada custom fees.
Each box has about 30 items each, one only has to state, whether glassware, clothing, pictures, china, ornaments etc.
You do not have to mention each "trinket" by name!!!

Both forms, you staple togeather, the one with shipping details is the front page. Fill it in ignoring the numbered lines, using the next page as a continuation sheet. You may and need to number/letter each item or box you are shipping clearly and record such on each line of the two page form.
At Immigration present your form with your passport and do as you are requested. You must have owned everything for at least one year and will not sell it for a year. You may do ONE ship of items without paying taxes.

If you need more writing space, use more printed off "continuation" sheets (second page).

The Pound is so strong that it will cost you much more to ship furniture, which is a waste of money and effort, when you can buy new for cheaper, and wood furniture is real wood! not chipboard.

Bedroom is half UK prices. Living room is third UK prices.
Forget anything that is electrical, it is not compatible. Also anything that requires electric to perform in equipment, such as CD`s and DVD`s VHS`s they will not work.
Also items from the U.S. are no good as the "cycles" in the voltage are different.
Just bring what your mum and grandma left you and give the rest away!!!
