Default Common Law Options - help please

If I travel with my fiancee to BC in September - (she has a WP and job) can I stay as a tourist for 6 months so that we can take on a Lawyer and prove that we are common law partners to the Immigration Authorities there. London has been unhelpful about it and just said to travel with her and the Immigration people will sort it out on landing. It all smells a bit loose to me and I want something more concrete! This all stems from the London decision not to recognise me as a Common Law Partner despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary - I feel a bit of buckpassing and responsibility shifting going on here.
