Hi: I have a sister-in-law (wife's sister) who is a permenat resident of Canada. Can I add
5 points under Factor 9 (Close relative in Canada) on the independent immigration
assessment sheet ? Please advise. Thanks Nadeem Usmani [email protected]

Hi Nadeem:
In accordance with ongoing immigration guidelines, you can give yourself 5 points if you,
the principal applicant or your spouse as dependent, have a brother, sister, mother,
father, grandparent, aunt, uncle, niece or nephew who is a permanent resident or Canadian
citizen living in Canada. Your spouse must provide proof of her relationship to her close
relative (s) in Canada, such as birth certificates or a family book, and proof of your
sister-in-law's status in Canada like her Record of Landing (IMM 1000) form or proof of
her Canadian citizenship (photocopy of pages of a Canadian passport or Canadian
citizenship card).
Good luck,

Current policy is to allow the granting of such points in cases in which the spouse of a
principal applicant is considered an "assisted relative." As such, you may assess yourself
those 5 points.
