We applied for the Canadian Citizenship 12 months ago.
Four months ago my wife was requested to send fingerprints. When I called
to ask for the status of our application, An agent told me the we need to
wait at least 6 more months to get the fingerprints results. Then he
recommended to send a letter requesting a separation of the file so my kids
and I could obtained the citizenship faster.
After 4 weeks I called again, an another agent told me that the separation
of the file is granted only under special circunstances and we should wait.
Who is correct The first or the second agent?
Thanks,
Leo

You sure you mean citizenship and not permanent residency?
No fingerprints are involved for citizenship and 12 months from start to
finish is the usual time for citizenship, not another 6 months wait for
fingerprints.

Fingerprints arise when the name chack of criminal records finds a match.
It does not happen often bit it does happen with citizenship applications
and it does cause delays. Probably just bad luck that someone else has the
same name and a criminal record.

As part of the immigrant community, I know personally many people who
have their process completed within 12 months. I have yet to get to
know someone who has more than 12 months of processing time. 6-8
months are common timeline.
As I have applied before and they didn't ask me for
fingerprinting(because my name is very unique indeed), I would expect
the same thing for my current application. My family got their
citizenships within 6 months. Although I had mine withdrawn halfway
through the application, I know that they must have obtained
clearances successfully without fingerprinting for myself because this
is required for prinpical applicant(during immigration) even though he
or she is not applying.
My family's case was started in Feb 5th 2004 by CPC, tested on Mar
29th and taken oath on June 9th. Strange thing is the citizenship card
indicated that the citizenship was obtained in Feb(200402) although
the oath was on June 9th. So my family had to use this in passport
application. Anybody know why?
