Citizenship finally!
#1

It's been a long journey. We (My wife and I) first started gathering immigration paperwork together in 2009 and submitted an application for PR under the Skilled workers program (of the day) back in Feb 2010, through the Canadian Embassy in London.
Last Friday we took our Oath of Citizenship at the Greek community centre in Victoria, BC. We will apply for our first Canadian passports this week, in person at the passport office in Victoria.
Our timeline can be seen in my signature file below.

They do the oath here in Victoria? I thought you had to go to Vancouver?

Hey James! I think you were applying or at least waiting to get PR around the same time as us - you moved to Sooke, right? Either way - congratulations on becoming citizens! I haven't been on this forum for a few years, so great to see a familiar name!
We eventually landed and moved here a year and one month after you:- March 2014. Living in Victoria... and applied for Citizenship last year - sent in application in Sept 2018, had it send back due to trying to do pics ourselves (worked for PR, but not for Citizenship, it seems!), sent back in Nov, app received in Dec 2018, and received notice back in Feb.... Can I check how long it took for you to get your test dates? And did you find it easy/straight forward? I am being quite laid back about it all... but wondering if I should start the revising soon... looking at your timeline, ours could be any time in the next month.... eek! Also: how long were you in the ceremony, please?

First, congrats!
Second, awesome - 6 months to get it, that's fantastic. Mr Schnooks is submitting his in the next week or two, so the shorter processing time is encouraging. (We are expecting 10-12 months.)

I believe the OP didn't have to take the citizenship test - due to age, so thats why it is shorter timeline.

We were then all invited to the same oath ceremony a month or so later.

No - because you still have to present your documents etc to them prior to the oath ceremony. We also didn’t need to do the test whereas our daughter did - we were all invited to attend at the same time, she went off to do her test with most other people whilst we had ‘interviews’ with the immigration offer. Once she finished the test, she had her session with the officer.

Our son was too young to do the test so he didn’t even attend the first session, just the oath ceremony 😀
