Finally got our invitation to the ceremony. So if anyone's interested, our timeline was - mailed documents April 2017, received by CIC May 10, receipt acknowledged June 20, processing started June 29, test January 20 2018, ceremony Feb 23. This is for an application in Ontario, GTA.

And even better, my wife & I didn't have to take the test as we're over 54 even though the rule was that you had to be over 64 at the time we actually applied. Obviously last year's changes were retroactive.

Anybody else applied since the rule change came into effect?
We sent our application in just before Christmas and haven’t had any confirmation of receipt yet. (We obviously tracked it so we know it was delivered).
I know the timelines all went to pot and increased because of the changes but was hoping they might have at least opened it by now.
I promised my husband I wouldn’t obsess over the citizenship as much as I did over PR but I guess bad habits.. lol

Now at bottom of big pile.

Thanks Dave, hopefully they will pick up speed and get to it sooner than you think. 🤞🏼

Yeah, very quick. I was really surprised when I got the email to invite me to take the test - I assumed I'd messed up my application somehow!

Our dates are:
  • Citizenship Application Sent: October 12th 2017
  • Received: October 16th 2017
  • Acknowledgement of Receipt: November 22nd 2017
  • In Process (ECAS): December 4th 2017
  • Quality Assurance Exercise - Physical Presence Questionnaire (see http://britishexpats.com/forum/immig...idence-907039/ for more detail): Dated December 9th 2017, received December 19th 2017, sent back in full January 23rd 2018, received (according to courier) January 24th 2017

Things were processing reasonably well until the last item appeared in the mail. From another forum, I've seen one or two people (out of a fair number) that got it as well managed to get test invite email after about 3-4 weeks after returning their docs. They were two different offices, so definitely can't draw any conclusions, but the hope is that this exercise won't delay things too much! But we shall see.

Graham.

Cic must have our place bugged - we got the emails today saying they have received the applications and are now checking them.
Let’s just hope it’s all in order now.
Happy Valentine’s Day to us

I also applied as soon as the new rules went into effect:

Applied: Oct 11th, 2017
Application Acknowledged: Nov 26th, 2017
Notice to Appear: Jan 26th, 2018
Citizenship Test: Feb 21st, 2018

I checked online today and my status is "Decision Made" so that happened sometime between the test and now, not sure exactly when!

After the test (At the Vancouver office) I was told three to five months to wait for the ceremony, it's going much quicker than expected, especially given what I presume was a big pile of applications from folks who, like me, were waiting for the rules to change.

My friend moved to Vancouver recently and part of her job is to oversee the citizenship ceremonies. Do you know the name of the person swore you in? Might have been her 😊

I haven't actually had the ceremony yet - just taken (and passed) the exam...

Sorry I read test and thought ceremony.

Congrats. We have that still to come but as hubby is nearly 54 he doesn’t want to do the test so we all must wait a little while longer!
