CIC Website NEW: Foreign Credentials Referral Office
Hi
Thought you might be interested, have just checked out this new feature FCRO on the CIC website. A key component is a new website http://www.canadacredentials.gc.ca/ , this features a search engine called "Working in Canada". You can get detailed labour market info on specific locations for your occupations; wages, plus information on regulated professions, training, job opportunities etc.
The wages section is an interesting read!! Are the average salaries in Canada really this low? Our reasons for wanting to go to Canada are not financially motivated, but how do you justify the high standard of living, when on exploring this website, wages appear to be very much lower than the UK? Can anyone confirm whether this is actually the case? Or is this just a ploy by the Canadian Government to put everyone off applying for PR, as if a 4 year wait is not already enough ???!!!
Sue

Hi Sue,
In my experience in moving from Scotland to Vancouver, salaries are similar, and if anything higher here than in scotland. I can't comment on other areas, however I know Alberta have very good salaries in general. Of course it depends on what industry you're planning to work, perhaps you should consult some canadian job websites for a guide?
My husband works in mining and minerals engineering here, and is paid more than I believe he would earn in Scotland (can't speak for London and the south)
Kat.

Kat,
Thanks for your reply. My OH is ex Royal Navy and is mechanical/marine engineer. He is currently working as a maintenance planning manager within oil/gas industry in the UK. We have checked out numerous job sites including Monster, Workopolis and specialist engineering job sites on the internet. There seem to be plenty of vacancies in his field however none of the positions advertised give an idea of expected salary. We are about to post our SW application this week so are not in the position for him to apply for a job just yet, but I guess if he contacts the agencies direct he may get an idea of actual pay.
Regards
Sue

Hi Sue,
From what I have seen ,your Hubbys skills could be in be demand in Alberta, it's definately worth contacting employers agencies now. If he gets a job offer you should be able to go much quicker than 4 years. The job has to have an LMO to say they can't get a Canadian to do the job and the wages are fair, but sounds like your hubby could have a good chance of getting that with his skills. There are loads of people going this route. If you put LMO into the forum search (click on search on the beige toolbar above)there will be lots of info for you) Good luck.
Thanks to the OP for posting the new website, a good read with lots of other useful links
