Default Children's Temporary Residents Visa Applications

Hi

I'm in the process of putting everything together to sent the the high commision in London for my TWP, my wife will be getting an open work permit at the same time.

I have two children aged 2 and 6 days.As they are pre school I've been advised to complete Temporary residents visa is this correct, there is a lot of sections which don't apply to children which If a don't complete I can't get the form to validate

Not entirely sure about this, but think you only need a temporary resident visa application if you would normally need a visa to travel to Canada, which UK Citizens don't. But the TWP checklist is confusing.

Temporary resident visa(s) for spouse/common-law partner (who is not applying for an open work permit) or dependent children who do not require a study permit (completion of separate application form required for each person travelling to Canada)

Please check our website for a list of countries whose nationals require a temporary resident visa
The bit in italics seems to suggest it isn't necessary, but the checkpoint itself seems to suggest it is necessary... Confusing.

I agree, it is confusing. I'm starting to think they won't require a Temporary Residents visa as they are UK passport holders

If you do get a status document for each child one aspect to watch out for is the length of time their passports are valid for. From their ages it probably isn't an issue but immigration won't make any status document valid beyond the date of their passport. In my case children were school age and I got study permits for them which have since expired. I have been told by CIC on different occasions that they do not need a new status document and then that they do. In hindsight I would have renewed their passports even though they still had a couple of years on them.

Perhaps an understanding of the distinction between a permit and a visa?

Just include them as dependents on your spouse's or your application. They don't require separate documents as they will not be attending school.

Hi
Just to piggy back on this-we are here on TWPs, our visas expire July 2012, BC PNP PR application sent in already. Youngest child's passport was due to expire this summer- so he had a student visa until August 2011. We have got him a new passport but do we need to get him a new student visa and if so how do we do it? He is 10 and obviously attending school.
Thanks

No, you just pay the $150 each for you and your wife.

The CIC fee calculator is here - https://services3.cic.gc.ca/efee/efee.do?lang=en
