Hi All
Could anyone tell me what the child laws are like in Canada? I've heard a couple of horror
stories that its basically impossible to discipline your child as there is strict laws on
parents, for screaming at your child or even giving them a hiding etc. This contradicts
other stories which I heard about Canada being one the best family orientated countries in
the world.
Any comments on this subject?
thanks

No, this is not true - there are no such laws. If physical punishment goes beyond spanking
to a beating, then obviously, that's illegal.

Canada is, thankfully, more traditional in some matters while more "progressive" in
others. With children, a Canadian parent would punish them further for getting into
trouble at school - not sue the teacher like in the US.
Last summer, two older hockey players - Dave Lowry and Gary Roberts - signed with Canadian
NHL teams stating their children being of school age as one major reason.
