CEC and overtime work
hi.
i found a thread by the long since departed A miller saying that hours overtime did not count towards the 3900 total hours needed to qualify for CEC.
can anyone else confirm or deny this?
thanks

Re: CEC and overtime work
sorry amy for being vague.
this forum in particular is always chock-full of TLAs (three-letter-acronyms!) that i thought it was obvious!
here is the post that mentioned that overtime want valid:
http://britishexpats.com/forum/showp...6&postcount=29
but as it came from someone who's since been discredited i was wondering if anyone else could clarify?

Hi
So you don't have to search, Section 80
(4) A period of work experience that exceeds full-time work in one occupation, or simultaneous periods of work experience in more than one full-time occupation, shall be evaluated as a single period of full-time work experience in a single occupation.
This is where it came from, which I believe is a credible source.

Re: CEC and overtime work
thanks PMM.
that section 80 is apparently talking about federal skilled workers.
There is a dedicated section 87.1, about the Canadian Experience Class further down in the document which does not repeat that information. It lists criteria in 3a-g but nothing about overtime.
i went through the latest 5609e CEC guide, but again nothing explicit there beyond the 37.5 h/week explanation.
since being here, the OT i have clocked up is equivalent to 3 months so it would be fantastic to get a concrete answer (ideally without spending the day on hold to CIC hotline!)

Re: CEC and overtime work
...So i listened to that tasteful but bland music they play while keeping you hold for a long while waiting to chat to CIC to clarify the overtime issue.
Not once, but twice.
I wanted to see if there was a definitive answer regarding overtime and CEC requirements. The 1st time i got through, one agent said that OT does not count and I should look at it from a full-time-days-worked perspective (if it == 24 months). The 2nd time, another agent said overtime does count and that i should look at it from an hours-worked perspective.
About as conclusive as "The Sopranos"...

Re: CEC and overtime work
How I imagine they do it is if you've been working or studying in Canada for 2 years, but don't really have 3900 full-time hours, you can probably apply for CEC claiming that you do (using overtime etc.), however if you have over 3900 hours, but have not been in Canada for 2 years, I expect there's no way you can apply for CEC "early" so to speak.
