You might want to look at this for more info: --> http://www.workingincanada.gc.ca/start-eng.do

I have applied as a QA Performance testing manager under NOC 0213.

From http://www.workingincanada.gc.ca/sea...do?sltnoc=0213

Computer and information systems managers plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the activities of organizations that analyze, design, develop, implement, operate and administer computer and telecommunications software, networks and information systems. They are employed throughout the public and private sectors.

This group includes the following related titles: EDP (electronic data processing) manager, computer systems manager, data centre manager, data processing director, information systems manager, manager, data processing and systems analysis, manager, management information system (MIS), manager, software engineering, software development manager, systems development manager

QA engineers/analysts/testers seem to fall under NOC 2171.

This group includes the following related titles: IT (information technology) consultant, computer consultant, computer systems analyst, informatics consultant, informatics security analyst, information systems business analyst, information systems quality assurance analyst, management information systems (MIS) analyst, systems auditor, systems consultant, systems security analyst.

Mehar,

You need to match the majority of the responsibilities - it's not the actual job title which matters, it's that you perform the responsibilities of an IT manager. E.g. you have staff, direct them, manage budget, that sort of thing. So long as you can prove that you are in that position and match the criteria for 0213, you have a shot.

My fiancee and I are going to be putting in our application in about 3 1/2 months time under 0213. I'm a software development manager so 100% fit under the NOC code and she's an MIS support manager so we're sure she does too as she's a manager in an IT department, directs staff, plans, manages budget etc.

Fingers crossed!

My current job title is Staff.Software QA Engineer / Staff. Software Engineer

Job responsibilities I think to add my ref letter are:

  2. Create, update, and review test plan to ensure that the procedures follow the defined standards.
  3. Application deployment management and customer relationship management.
  4. Design technical training courses for the purpose of training personnel in the use of applications.
  5. Making presentations to customer and client audiences.
  6. Managing Service Level Agreement and technical support regarding Applications.
  7. Prepare a variety of documents i.e. product documentation, training material.

As Maple Sauce said follow the link they kindly supplied to you...only you will know what activities you do that will tie into what they are looking for.

There is lots of info on BE and CIC that lists the activities for 0213.

Also when you send in your reference letter from your employer that will list your actual responsibilies, so you cant pull the wool over their eyes, if they link in with the code you are applying under then you will be Ok. If you are having to 'shoehorn' your role into a code description, then perhaps you need to look under another code.
Good luck

Hi ,

Just a quick question.... ...I am not sure how to ask ...I mean under which reason to my present employer for the employment reference letter ? is it mandatory when applying for PR in FSW catgory ?
Can T4,Paystubs,workpermit be submitted in tead of the employment letter ?
The reason is I am afraid that my employer will not provide this letter if I disclose my intention to apply for PR and stay in Canada for a long time.

I would request your view and help on this.

Thanks

My understanding is that they are very strict on the letter. It is tricky, but my OH went to personell/HR for this info and this way his boss is still oblivious to our plans. Could that work for you?
Are you already in Canada?

It does say in the application guide that if you can't provide a letter from your current employer, to say so and give a reason why. As long as you can provide them from previous employment, it should be fine, plus as much as you can from your current employement.

But 0213 is one of the occupations most likely to be removed from the list when it's changed imminently, so you either need to get your application in urgently (i.e. Fedex it tomorrow at the latest!), or wait if you're prepared to risk no longer being eligible.

For my current employer, I only sent contracts, payslips and P60s and a letter confirming that I work there and in what position. Wasnt a problem. Unless the rules have changed, you should be ok. As Chris said, you should have a letter from other employers.

True. If he had no previous jobs and cant get a reference letter from his current employer, well....hmm. Can't suggest an alternate.

Chances of going into an IT management position with no previous job history, skilled or otherwise... Not good

Good point though.

I was thinking more of situations like mine, 10 years with the same company, same boss, working up through the ranks. I've got the management experience for 0213 but it will p*ss off said boss big style if I need to tap him for the reference letter. I'm going through the get-the-letter-from-HR route, but I just wanted to point out that we don't all move around from company to company.

Another opetion could be to tell your boss a little fib. Like you are considering going to a uni part time to get a degree and need a reference letter for admission. Applying to several different unis and therefore, the letter is addressed to 'To whom it may concern'.

If you are in a large company, HR would do the trick as well. In my experience HR is happy to give you a letter confirming your title and dates of employments, but usualy not what your responsibilities are. They always say to get that from the line manager.
