Cancer Question
My sister and her OH are considering moving to Canada, he is in a category which is on the shortlist, he is extremely qualified in his profession. The problem is that last year she was diagnosed with cancer and has since had chemo & radiotherapy plus operations and is now cancer free. If her OH is offered a position in Canada what are the restrictions on them being able to take up the offer? Does she have to be cancer free for a certain amount of time? Any help would be appreciated!

Re: Cancer Question
Hi there
I am in the same position as your sister except I haven't started radiation yet.
We had planned applying for PR in Canada & forms were half filled in when I was diagnosed, & still hope to apply under family class as soon as my radiation has been completed.
I also would be interested if there is a time people have to wait to be "in the clear".

Re: Cancer Question
In 2005 we were told that you have to be cancer free for 5 years before they class you as low-risk to the Canadian health system. Maybe things have changed.

Re: Cancer Question
We kinda thought it might be 5 years but could find nothing official, hopefully it might have changed. If so it's a great disappointment! But the speed things work at she'd probably be cancer free for 5 years by the time a PR visa came through!

Re: Cancer Question
Not sure if this will help Liffy, you may have already looked on CIC.
This is the Designated Practitioner Handbook.
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resourc...ppendix-09.asp
I cut and pasted this paragragh:
If the applicant is NOT excessive demand exempt, the discharge summary and any pathology report from admissions for serious illnesses within the last 5 years should be included. For all neoplastic disease treated within the past five (5) years, the relevant operative and pathology reports, with a current specialist’s report, should be included
Good Luck
Julie

Re: Cancer Question
Just had a thought
Have you tried calling one of the Medical Centres who do Immigration Medicals?
I had mine done in Nottingham. Tudor Medical Centre/Visa Medicals
0115 9660636
http://www.visamedicals.co.uk/
They say to call them if their website doesn't answer your questions?
They really are very helpful there. I bet they would be able to advise you.

Re: Cancer Question
Good Thinking Batman! I've just spoken to them and although they couldn't help they have given me a number of a CIC helpline that deals with such problems.
Thank you!

Re: Cancer Question
sorry to ask a question on your thread LiffyB, but what happens if you are already in Canada on a WP and between landing and getting PR you have a cancer diagnosis? Does that make sense? Would they delay the PR?

Re: Cancer Question
The state of your health at the time that you submit your PR application is irrelevant. What is relevant is the state of your health at the time that you go for your immigration medical exam.

Re: Cancer Question
Citizenship and Immigration Canada's response to a medical condition would be the same, regardless of the location of the person who submitted the PR application. Also, I don't think it would delay PR. From the reports I've seen here, it's usually been an either / or response. Either they accept you, even with your medical condition, or they reject you because of your medical condition.

I can't help - but I've been diagnosed with a benign tumor - so I wanted to send you lots of luck and hugs. I hope it all works out for them.
