Default Canadian Working Holiday Visa - Help

Having messed up my USA plans by being denied a B2 visa, I was thinking of going to Canada and was thrilled to find it may be possible to get a WHV. I just have a question about the application. One of the questions states: Have you ever been refused admission or been ordered to leave Canada or any other country?

My first instinct was to put No. I have never turned up at a country and been told I cannot come in, nor have I been in any country and told to leave. but does my B2 Visa denial count as "refused admission" to the USA? and do you know if this will much hurt my chances of getting the WHV?

Thank you for your time

I suppose it would depend on why you were refused entry. Do you have the opportunity to put an explanation with your application?

You weren't refused admission at a border, you just had a visa application denied. Those are different - I would say you don't have to include that on the WHV application.

The OP was refused an admission visa, so the answer is yes.

Thanks for your replies

DandNHill - There is space for an explanation. If you answer yes you have to provide details.

Not only do they not mention visas in that question, but the question above is: Have you ever been refused any kind of visa to travel to Canada?. This suggests to me that the next question is not referring to visas, but actual refusal of entry once getting to the country. Not to mention, on other applications those 2 questions are sperate: 1, have you ever been refused a visa. 2, have you ever ben refused entry. Refused entry and refused visa are so different, how can they both be in the same question?

You might want to split hairs, but a refusal is a refusal you say No to the question, CIC/CHC has access to the US records, they may take the hard line and say the magic work "misrepresentation" resulting in either a 1 or 2 year ban.

Yes I understand. Well, it's not 100% clear, but in order to avoid even more problems I'm going to tick "Yes" and explain it was a refused visa, not refused entry at the border. If I tick yes when it should be no it's no where near as bad a ticking no when it should be yes. Thank you so much for your advice!
