Question Canadian Border - Vancouver

Hi :-)

My boyfriend has to go down to the border to (hopefully) get his TWP sorted, we're in Vancouver so which is the best one to go to? Also if anyone has been down to do this and can explain where you go etc I would appreciate it!

Thanks

Either Peace Arch on Hwy 99 or the Truck Crossing on Hwy 15.

Do you have a car? If so, drive down to the border. You then have a choice:

1) Have a trip into the US. Go shopping at Bellis Fair or something. Assuming you have British passports you will be sent into US immigration, pay your six (US) dollars, have finger prints taken, and be issued with a 3 month, multi-use visitor's visa. On the way back to Canada tell the officer in the control booth that you want to activate your TWP and they will direct you into immigration.

2) Tell the US officer that you do not wish to visit the US but want to activate your Canadian TWP. The officer will give you a notice of refusal of entry to the US and turn you round and send you back to Canada. At the Canadian control booth you say you want to activate your TWP.

If you don't have a car you can get a bus to White Rock and then get a taxi to drop you off in the Peace Arch Park car park (behind the duty free). You can then wander round the Peace Arch and back up to the Canadian border. They have recently rebuilt the crossing so I don't know if you can get directly to the immigration office on foot. You used to have to dodge the cars.

After you have seen the immigration people you can walk up to the Tourist information office where you should (no promises though) be able to order another taxi (or you could ask the first taxi to wait for you there).

I guess another way would be to take a return trip to Bellingham by bus.

Thanks for that, yes we'll be driving. I think we'll take option 2, as just want to get this over and done with!!

Good, that makes it much easier. You can do this at either the Peace Arch or truck crossings. The southbound wait times are shown on an overhead information board before the 8th Avenue exit where you have to make your final decision. Better, they usually give information about the wait times on News 1130 (1130 on the AM band) so you can listen to this on the way down to the border. This is better because they give information on both southbound and northbound wait times.

Try to avoid the weekend if at all possible, and if you have to do it on the weekend aim to get there in the early afternoon. Early evening in midweek is usually the quickest. The immigration office is open 24/7 in both locations.

If the line ups are the same at both crossings the Peace Arch is a prettier place to wait.

Again thanks for the very useful information!

The plan is to head down on Thursday and keep all fingers and toes crossed as his original application was denied. He has an LMO but they said he didn't have enough work experience (he has 10 years!)
