Folks, Can someone please comment on how long it really takes to get permanent
residence approved under the Independent (scientist/engineer) category from the time
the application is sent to a processing center ?

A friend of mine has recently applied to the Buffalo Processing Center. Does it help
if someone scores very high on the evaluation questionnaire, i.e. he/she meets most
of the criteria set out in the Independent category application. ? Thanks, A. Ray.

High score and well prepared application with all supporting documents may result in
an interview waiver and such shortens the processing time.

Current processing time in Buffalo for applications submitted from within this post
jurisdiction is about 7 - 12 months with interview waiver and anywhere from 12 to 16
months when interview is required. Applications from outside Buffalo's jurisdiction
have no chance for interview waiver and are processed anywhere from 14 to 20+ months.

Well no one can really say much beyond giving you the average processing times. If
the interview is waived it would be shorter, and your friend has already received
some indication to work with. Jim Humphries

Processing times vary from post to post and from time to time during the = year
and year over year. Generally, you will find a much shorter time = if your
interview is waived.

A high score is not the only indicator of a waiver. You can imagine, = the
officer must be satisfied that the requirements are met. Helping to = satisfy,
expedites the case.

In fact a properly prepared and presented case where the interview is = waived can be
complete in as little as 4-6 months out of posts like RPC = BUF. =20

If an interview is necessary or the case is lacking, then it will take = much more
time to satisfy the visa officer. Typically, in the USA posts = where interview is
necessary you see times of about 12-15 months.
