British Expats - In-Canada Family class sponsorship application

I recently submitted my application for Permanent Residence (Family Class sponsorship). It was received March 26th and Went to In-process and says we started work on your file April 8th (2011). This is all great and I am glad my application is finally in. I am currently here on a 12 month visitors visa.

The problem is I wanted to go and visit the UK last month as my sister had just had a baby, however my doctor who did my immigration medical said I can't leave Canada while my application is being processed. So I went on to the CIC website and had to look VERY hard to find out about this. The website doesn't say I can't travel outside of Canada but does say if I don't gain re-entry my application will be cancelled and I would have to re-apply, from scratch, outside of Canada. Wanting further clarification I called the CIC helpline to see what they said, her standard trained response from which she wouldn't deviate is that travel out of Canada whilst my application is in process is not advisable. Again, not a no, but not a yes either.

Has anyone here been in the same circumstance? Did you travel? How was re-entry? Does my application make re-entry harder?

I know I will have to get a new temporary visitor visa upon re-entry but I had to do that when I got here in October 2010 so surely it shouldn't be any more of an issue now? Can anyone give me some advice.... I'm confused.com!
