Default Can you work in Canada whilst a PR form is being processed?

Hi there,
We are new to this forum and new to this process as we have just decided to begin this journey and hopefully one day move to Canada. We are hopefully applying under the self-employment business route but were just wondering whether any knows whether you can be granted a temporary work permit whilst your main immigration visa application is being processed. Because we both work in the arts, its important for us to connect as much as possible with the Canadian theatre community in the build up to us eventually moving there so we want to work out their on short term contracts if and when we can?

Can anyone help us with that one?!

Also any advice in general on applying as a self-employed person would be amazing!

I THINK (though am not 100% sure) that Rich went down this route - perhaps drop him a PM?

Thanks guys- thats really helpful. Its nice to know there are other people out there in the same boat! Using the forum, I managed to find a more detailed handbook on the CIC website (which was seemingly impossible to find before!) and I think we tick all the boxes for the self-employment route so hope to put in our application in the next week! (and preparing for a long wait!!)
