Default can you get an open WP when spousal spons OUT of canada?

ive submitted Cara's spousal sponsership today.

i know if you apply in Canada when you get the approval in principle you can then apply for an open work permit.

Now Cara is IN Canada, but we are applying OUT of Canada via London as its so much quicker.

now from other timelines my sponser side of things is taking about a month or so to get the approval. so at that stage can she apply for an open work permit? or is that only for IN canada applicants?

as it stands i think the sponsership will go through quicker than her LMO!!!

thanks
Scott

It would be months before she got approval in principle if she were an in-Canada applicant and most people find that when they do apply for the open WP it is issued only a few weeks before final approval in any case. And, no, she cannot get an open WP as an overseas applicant anyway.

Open WP is available only for in Canada sponsored spouses after approval in principle (currently about 8 months from application).

thanks both for your replies.

oh well, seeing as a lot of people's similar applications are only taking about 2to3 months its not too bad of a thing that she cant get the open WP.

My wife and I looked into this closely as we were tempted to apply from within Canada so that she could get back to her family sooner. As the others said, the process is slower applying from inside Canada. I've just received my PR visa and the whole process from sending the application to receiving the passport request took about 9-10 weeks.
