Can UK teacher get teaching position in private schools?
I am on a 12 month teaching exchange in BC and have a TWP which expires Aug 13.
We want to try and stay in Canada and am looking for ways to get PR, or initially my TWP extended. I note that Teachers are not on 'the list' for PR and have been told there are no shortages in teachers here. Am wondering if anyone knows if it would be a better option to approach private schools to try and gain employment and if there would be a way round the LMO if a position came up in a private school?

Hi
You are going to need a LMO for a private school as well. It might be pretty tough, with the surplus of teachers in BC. Maybe in the North, but still pretty iffy.

Any reason why you did not apply for PR upon arrival (Through PNP because FSW is closed until 2013)?
It can take 10-11 months.

And presumably the OP won't have been able to apply for PR as it was only a year's exchange, so the employer wouldn't give them a permanent job offer, plus the OP's TWP will have been issued under R205(b), meaning it can't be used to apply for PR.

To answer your question, yes it is possible for a uk teacher to get work in private schools. Technically you wouldn't even need to get registration with the relevant college
However you'd need to be offering something massively spectacular . Ie you wrote the curriculum they are following etc.
If you need an lmo then forget it , with the massive over supply of teachers in most areas there is no way you could persuade immigration that no Canadian is available.
Once you've got pr you may have a shot.
How much experience do you have ? What can you offer in the way of sports coaching and cocurriculars?
These are things that they'll look at and you may as well start thinking about them now.
