Default can someone give advice please

I am coming to Canada in september with my wife i am uk citizen and my wife is Canadian citizen we have been living together in uk for 18 months and been married for 1 year. we are going to stay with my wifes mother who is elderly (in her 70s) and my wife wants to go and look after her, we intend to apply for my pr from inside canada whilst there i know she can sponsor me that is not a problem what does concern me is getting through passport control, because we have lived in uk for eighteen months my wife has no job in canada (she will be looking for employment when we are there) i know i need to have a return air ticket and that i have to tell them of my intention to apply for pr, what do we need to show them at passport control??? ie financial status. my wife and i will have about $15000 cdn between us my wife also has a monthly pension of $800 cdn and she will find employment when we are there. Will this be sufficent.
thanks for your time

Have you thought about the pros and cons of an offshore spouse visa application instead?

You will not need anything at passport control. As you are a UK citizen you don't even need a visa to enter as a tourist, you will then have 6 months to legally stay in canada. if you PR isn't processed in this time (which is likely) you can explain the situation and apply for an extension to stay. It is unlikely you will be asked anything at passport control but if you are, be upfront and honest. You do not need to show funds etc as you will officially be a visitor.
Good luck
