Default can I stay longer than what I told immigration officer?

Hi folks, not sure how strict the 'rules' are coming into the airports in toronto. if I stay longer than what I told border patrol at the airport is this a problem ? example being I stayed for 2 months rather than just one? even though as Brits we stay for 6 months- so this isn't a problem right ? will this issue also come up once I'm eventually interviewed (if) for my PR next year?

Presume the main criterion is the exit date stamped in your passport. If it's 6 months, it does not matter if you stay 6 days or the full 6 months. The main thing is to leave on or before the expiry date of your visitor stamp.

If you were not issued a visitor record and just had a stamp in your passport then you can stay for 6 months.

aah I see! So it doesn't matter what date is in there? Just aslong as I don't go over 6 months. Perfect! Its far easier to tell the border patrol your saying for just a few weeks just to get the stamp right? The stamps I've only had is only the entry stamp. Not has a visitor record (if thats a seperate doc)?

er, no, does the stamp on your passport have an expiry date on it?

Stamps have the entry date only. CBSA/CIC work from that date for the 6 months. All stays over 6 months are documented. Sometimes a BSO will write an expiry date or valid only for 3 weeks under the stamp
