Paper file BFed to NED means that if no action occurs before that time the file will be sent to (probably) an officer whose initials are NED, otherwise NED may be a section in the visa office. The rest are function keys used to access different aspect of the computer file.

It goes on to say PSDEC:1
I am assuming that means paper screening is passed.
and does "FILE BF'D TO: NED ON 20-10-2007" means file was forwarded to some one with intitails as NED.

So overall it's not definitive that case has been approved for medical, is that right ?
because it also goes on to say
"VIEW MEDICAL ASSESSMENT FOR ENTIRE FAMILY (Y/N)? Y "

Some of what you are reading are simply access keys or commands such as "View medical ...." which just permits the officer to see the medical results and any comments from the assessor. BFs are fail safe procedures to ensure that files do not die on the vine when expected actions somehow do not occur. The entry merely means that the file should go to NED but not that it will - he or she may already have it in hand. When NED is finished with the file he or she will enter a new BF Date based upon what is expected to happen in the meantime. Without a BF date the officer could easily forget all about the file as it sits in the file room or registry. PS DEC = 1 means that the file has passed preliminary screening which is obviously a good sign.

When did you apply, through which visa post?

Was it a simplified application form or standard, full application package with all supporting documents?
