Default Bunac visa to LMO or Perm Residency? You decide....

Hi there,

So.. I came to Canada on the Bunac visa and managed to get a job in my field - yippee! So now I want to stay longer than my visa (which expires in May 2011).

I'm a chartered accountant, so on the list of skilled workers and my employer has offered to foot the bill and sponsor me. However they have kind of left it up to me to decide how and guess want to limit the use of immigration consultants..... so need some advice:

Think my options are:
1) LMO - get an extra 2 year working visa which is fine by me as not sure if want to stay permanently anyway but like the job enough to stay for a few years.
2) Perm Residency - I read something about fast tracking if you have a job offer - is this possible?

So basically want to take the route of least resistance and highest chance of success and not have to have a break from working between end of Bunac and new visa. What would people suggest?

My job is also quite specialised, there are probably only a handful of these companies in Canada and the accounting surrounding them is very specific so hopefully I wouldn't have a problem with the LMO - but how do I find out the guidelines for what the firm has to do?

Thanks guys, really appreciate the help.

Not any longer I'm afraid - accountants are no longer on the list of high demand occupations eligible for Skilled Worker visas.

You can get a LMO or AEO, and apply under FSW (category 2). Either of those routes will take around a year though, so you may want to use the LMO to get a TWP first whilst your PR is being processed. To get the LMO, the company must prove that they have advertised the job across Canada and be unable to find a Canadian willing, or able, to do the job. Be warned that a lot of LMO's are being refused at the moment, so best to apply asap so you've got time to try again if it's rejected.

BC's PNP program is another option, but FSW should be quicker, so I'd concentrate on that.

Good luck.

Ah thanks! I did the quiz on the government website and it told me I was eligible as an accountant, I probably got mixed up though, I have poured over that website a lot.

So either way the first step is to apply for an LMO? Am I right?

Can anyone point me in the direction of finding out what I and the company have to do formally and how to document it? And any tips to make sure my application is a success?

Thanks
