Biometrics:
Hi folks,
Quick question as I’ve had a look online and I’m not 100% sure of the answer so wanted to double check.
For our PR application we will apparently be asked to provide biometrics. This isn’t something we’ve had to provide before so it will be a first for us.
Living in Calgary- does anyone know where we go to get biometrics done?
Thank you!

HI
1. Your closest choice is the US, there are no facilities in Canada for Biometrics.

Re: Biometrics:
You can go to one of these official locations to give your biometrics:
- visa application centres (VACs) worldwide
- application support centers (ASCs) in the United States and its territories

I asked on here hoping I was missing something but doesn’t look like I am. looks like I’m going for an 8 hour drive each way to Spokane to an application support centre as that one seems to be the closest. Seems rather insane but I guess that’s life.

If you apply for permanent residence and are in Canada You may qualify for an exemption from having to give biometrics. Find out more in the relevant application guide.

In Canada, the enrolment of biometrics is conducted at designated Service Canada locations for permanent and temporary residence applicants lawfully in Canada.
For clients who have a BIL, biometrics will be collected by enrolment agents using equipment provided and maintained by IRCC.

I have a German/British friend living Alberta who is here on an IEC and was entitled to an extension on it and they had to get biometrics a few months ago. So- not sure if it will be any different for us. I wouldn’t imagine the 2 countries would be massively different.
We never had to give biometrics for our temp permits because it was before they brought all this in- I wish we had now- then it would be one less thing to think about. Haha
I feel like asking someone to leave the country to provide something for the application is kinda insane but- we shall see I guess.

Re: Biometrics:
Hi applicants are exempt biometrics under the temporary public policy on temporary residence and permanent residence Applications if they are eligible to apply from within Canada. If you are currently residing in Canada on a work permit you are likely to be currently exempt as you are likely eligible to apply for Permanent Residence from within Canada.
As IEC WP Application would not fall under the exemption as it's technically an outside of Canada Application even if the Applicant is in Canada.

Re: Biometrics:
I certainly didn’t mean to discredit your response- and I do thank you for your time in looking in to it for me.
Thank you to everyone for their response.
It is suggesting that I won’t need to get biometrics while their is no available place to do so in Canada- but as the information on the government website isn’t conclusive, and I am aware of someone who had to drive to the US for them (though a slightly different situation)- I guess I will have to wait and see- though fingers crossed everyone’s educated assumptions are correct.
Thanks for everyone’s help.

Re: Biometrics:
Yes no disrespect Siouxie. I was just trying to explain the difference to the OP between a PR applicant currently in Canada on a Work Permit (likely exempt biometrics) and a person applying for an IEC work permit also residing in Canada who would not be exempt.

From my post -
https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/corporate/publications-manuals/operational-bulletins-manuals/identity-management/biometrics/where.html#toc1c
Note: There is a temporary public policy exemption for in-Canada applicants. More specifically, foreign nationals who are eligible to apply from within Canada would normally provide their biometrics as part of an application or request for
a temporary resident visa (TRV)
a work permit or study permit
a temporary resident permit
permanent residence
However, since there is currently no biometric service delivery network within Canada, these applicants are exempt from the biometrics requirement until such time as the public policy is lifted.
