Default Big changes just being announced on Spousals and Family class

- processing times being cut to a year inside or outside spousal as of today
- one application process inland or outland
- police certificates and meds required later in the process
- new process in effect from 15 December but IRCC will continue accepting applications using the old kit until 31 January 2017.

THis is super interesting but hopefully at least the forms will be more straight-forward...

I am not looking forward to making a new FAQ, lol.

I just saw this when I went on to download the forms to start completing them.

OK... so now what.. wait a week and get the new forms? What's the verdict?

And with new process, will there still be the option for entry with Dual Intent? What month is that option open at?

If it were me, I would wait for the new application kit.

It's not like you're 99% through compiling your application already.

Medicals can be done anywhere in the world and I don't see them changing it.

Oh, ok. I thought the medicals had to be at from your country of application if applying from outside Canada. Anywhere would be good as it would allow you to do it from inside Canada.

Currently, many people who apply via the Family Class get their medicals done in Canada. There is an eMedical system.

We had a good laugh about this at work today which was to do with making the forms and instruction guides easier to read and not needing a PhD in English as quoted by the Minister.
So the guide will go from 180 pages to 75 pages. OK we have saved a few trees by doing this
Will people actually read the guides even if they are easier to understand or still rely on several BE posters to walk them through it or answers like
There is an Instruction Guide to help you fill out the forms

How about making the forms easier for refugee claimants who don't speak English easier to fill out.

I applaud IRCC for trying to make it easier and quicker but this was being asked many many years ago both with Conservative and Liberal Governments in charge.

Regarding the medicals, I suspect this is so they won't 'run out' in the interim - more for CIC's benefit as less work involved. It does mean that you have a very small amount of time to receive the communication, get an appointment and undergo the medical though - I would recommend that people link their MyCIC account so they make sure they get notification. It caused massive delays when I applied due to lost mail and CIC London not acting in a timely manner in issuing the forms required (at that time) for the medical.

Yes, I am wondering if they will end up lengthening the time provided for Meds and PCCs.

They almost certainly would have to for PCCs, especially since some countries take ages to get it (I think Spain takes like 3 months?!). I'm a bit surprised they are leaving the PCCs so late in the process, though. Leaving the medical makes sense, but the PCCs I find quite surprising.

I am going to go put up a note at the top of the FAQ that the forms are changing and that a lot of the FAQ is now defunct (this makes me so sad, lol). I will probably do up a new one in the new year once I've had a chance to digest the new forms and read through them. At least some other parts of the FAQ are still applicable, like what happens after you apply and information about getting DM/COPR and whatnot.

And re: dual intent, I don't think the new process will change dual intent at all. An application filed is an application lodged, regardless of which set of forms you've used.

Also, I haven't seen anything about the inland process including a work permit. I wonder if they are discontinuing the program now with the processing time dropping? Curious to see if/when an official announcement is made about that...

The work permit pilot continues for another year. It was in the announcement somewhere.
