Have you been there? Apart from Parliament Hill, there isn't a whole lot of interest and it's a tough town for a new immigrant!

What city in the US would Toronto most closely compare to?

That's hard question, because I doubt anyone has visited every US city! It doesn't compare in any way shape or form to NYC or LA, both of those cities having characteristics all their own I'd say! I can't honestly remember all the US cities I have been in, but Cincinnati (sp?) resembles TO (both have brilliant public libraries, sorry I am an anorak!) and to a lesser extent Seattle. It's a really subjective comparison though and I expect others will have different opinions.

a la societe etrangere.. pas de logic pour le sexe, hein?

I would say "pas de gens comme vous qui chialent" or "On est ras-le-bol
avec les chialeux" that would sound much better.

Si cest moi qui decide l'evolution de la langue francaise, j'vais debarrasser
la distinction de gendre. Ca m'ecoeure trop!

English, Algonquin, French, Punjabi, Cantonese, who cares? As long as you
live in a place where the majority speaks a certain language, it is to your
advantage to speak it.

I am sure you are right. It is the best written French I have seen so far though - which says it all really.

Hi everyone,

What about Ottawa? I went there last year and fell in love with the place.
I was thinking of moving there instead of Toronto.

Also does anyone know the "kool" places to live in Toronto and Ottawa?

24 Sussex is the swank hangout in Ottawa. Presently occupied by idiots who
will bend over backward to do anything for you for a small donation to their
pet charity, "The Lobotomized Luna-Lubber Liberal Society of Planet Earth."
Sleep with your eyes open, and invest in one of those money belts, though.
They tend to pick your pockets when you are off guard, especially if you are
American.

Ask for "Crazy Johnny." Tell him Alberta sent you. :P

honestly, I think of all the cities in Canada, I would choose Montreal because of its diversity and cosmopolitan ambiance. I know you can say the same about Toronto or Vancouver, but with Montreal it's different mainly because of the French mix. The added French culture gives the city a real unique blend of North American and European cultures. In addition, Montreal combines good nature and landscape with a medium amount of jobs, whereas Toronto has only jobs and no nature, and Vancouver has nature but no jobs.

BTW, I have been to Toronto and Vancouver, but not Montreal. I am building my opinion on Montreal based on readings.

i'd say montreal for now cos you can really get the feel of what canada should be.
Bilingual, multicultural, friendly, cold in the winter, exciting in the summer.

I dunno about no nature in Toronto, the actual city it's self isn't too
badly served by parks etc and once you get down to the lakeside and then
head east or west from the main downtown core there are loads of trails and
although busy and crowded the islands are quite nice for walking etc too.
Then you only have to take a short drive north to get into either Huronia
and the national parks there or Muskoka and drive a bit further east as well
and you can make it to Algonquin in a reasonable drive for camping, canoeing
and hiking etc.
The actual city it's self is fairly crowded and is teh biggest in Canada for
sure but outside the main metropolitan area there is lots.
