Default Best Cities to live the World. - Vancouver ranks 2nd

Would be immigrants and those considering moving out from canada
(Aikido being the least missed) might want to look at this Quality of
Life survey.
The link is here:
http://www.mercerhr.com/pressrelease...ontent=1084615

Summary:
I. World-wide quality of life survey Overall Rankings:
Vancouver ranks 2nd after Zurich
Toronto ranks 12th (2002 ranking: 18th)
Most European countries with the exception of OZ and Kiwi land
dominates the ranking from 1-20.
San Francisco made a dismal 20th place

II. Personal safety rankings
North America
Canadian cities are the safest in North America, due to strict law
enforcement and low crime rates. Calgary, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto,
and Vancouver share joint 25th position with a score of 113.5.

In the US, Honolulu, Houston, and San Francisco all take 40th place
(score 106.5). Meanwhile, Chicago, New York, and Seattle share
position 64 (score 100) in the rankings. The lowest scoring city in
North America is Washington D.C, ranked 107 (score 85)

III. Here's a top 23 for those who don't want to download the PDF
format from the site.

Overall Rankings – Mercer's Quality of Life Survey 2003:
Top 50 Cities (New York =100)
Rank Index
2003 2002 City Country
1 1 ZURICH Switzerland
2 2 VANCOUVER Canada
2 2 VIENNA Austria
2 4 GENEVA Switzerland
5 4 SYDNEY Australia
5 6 AUCKLAND New Zealand
5 6 COPENHAGEN Denmark
5 6 FRANKFURT Germany
5 10 BERN Switzerland
10 10 MUNICH Germany
10 12 AMSTERDAM Netherlands
12 15 BRUSSELS Belgium
12 15 DÃœSSELDORF Germany
12 18 TORONTO Canada
15 12 MELBOURNE Australia
15 12 STOCKHOLM Sweden
15 18 LUXEMBOURG Luxembourg
15 22 BERLIN Germany
15 22 WELLINGTON New Zealand
20 18 PERTH Australia
20 18 SAN FRANCISCO USA
20 25 OTTAWA Canada
23 22 HONOLULU USA
23 25 MONTREAL Canada
23 35 DUBLIN Ireland

The bottomline? Despite all the negative things posted in this NG from
legitimate complaints (underemployment, cold weather) to the mundane
(no laundry in the apt.) Canada is still a prime place to live. And
will be better place to live if Aikido moves to San Francisco! (sorry
- my day seemed not complete without taking a swipe at this
cranial-rectally inverted dolt!)

cheers!

these things should always be taken with a pinch of salt ...I mean you have to ask yourself why, when no US city scores above 20, immagrants from around the world aim to move there. Same with London ...for all its faults its one of THE greatest cities in the world, attracting talented ambitious people from around the world.

I absolutely agree with you Andrew....more people immigrate to USA and UK for a
good reasons.

I love Canada though, but there's no reason to boast on what makes Canada
great..Boasting couls be a sign of insecurity.
