Becoming Dependant Again

Would a child under 22 who was married and therefore not a dependent become a dependent again on divorce?

Wrong! in IRCC terms a dependant child is under 22 and can be older in certain circumstances!

It does seem odd that in these circumstances she is deemed "a dependant".

Well the question is, are they? or is there a rule along the lines of once you have ceased to be a dependent you can't become one again, even if your circumstances change?

IRCC use that word and are very clear on what they define as a 'dependant' for the purposes of immigration. Not to be confused with what you would normally think of as a 'dependant'. Perhaps if they called it 'Buffalo' it would cause less confusion, but I suspect not!

Similarly, IRCC have a very clear definition of what they mean by 'common law spouse' which may or may not accord with 'common accepted usage'.

yes they meet definition of dependent child:

from https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration...-children.html

regards to civil status, a dependant who is single, divorced or widowed, whose marriage has been annulled or who is no longer in a common-law relationship at the time of the initial receipt of the application is considered to meet the definition of a dependent child and must continue to meet the definition of a dependent child for the duration of processing.
