Thankyou everyone,
Thats some good advice there!

I am well aware of the competition to get into my career it's the same in the UK, hence the reason i'm cautious to pack it in with no guarantees.

Unfortunatly there are good hard working retained firefighters that get turned away time & time again for wholetime positions. They are greeted with a card telling them they do not have the qualities for the position of a firefighter, yet already currently work for the same FRS, yet the FRS will happily recruit someone with NO experience who drops out on the course because it's too physical!?

It's strange but true, same goes for wholetimers applying for a position in other services...

Good luck to all your family and friends who are applying and tell them to keep on fighting!

You cant qualify as a trade in a few weeks, the course you mention as a bathroom fitter does it give you any paperwork once pased, such as city and Guilds?
I have heard of many of these 6 week courses and no employer will take you on when there is some one with a 4 year apprenticeship! Just be careful what you spend your hard earned cash on!
