Background/security Checks...
yes i know this has been posted many times before and i apologize in advance for the repetitiveness.. .but i searched and searches and am still not satisfied with the posts ive read.
would somebody please detail in depth what such checks involve?
i do realize they run an interpol check and an FBI check.. and also require a police record from the country the applicant is from.
but what other background checks are conducted?

OK, here we go again ... for the hundreth time...
FBI or other police certificates from all countries applicant resided in since age 18 or for past 10 years (whichever is longer) are required for criminal check - to see if applicant has any criminal record, convictions, pending charges, etc. in all countries s/he resided.
There are also 2 completely separate checks that are most of the time confused as "background check" -
1. Background check - conducted by visa post processing application with cooperation from visa posts in jurisdictions where your education/experience credentials and personal data are from. It verifies your personal info as well as your education and work experience as claimed in application. And yes - employers and schools are often contacted during this task.
2. Security check - conducted completely independently from CIC by Canadian intelligence and security agencies with or without cooperation of proper authorities in countries it is conducted. It checks if applicant is or ever was involved in or associated in any way with someone who is or was involved in espionage, terrorism, war crimes, crimes against humanity, organized crime, radical movements, etc.. Security check is initiated after positive selection decision (subject to completion of background check) was made (after successful interview or interview waiver) and may take anywhere from few months to well over 15 months to conclude - visa post won't know anything about progress of security check nor any details, all what visa post will receive is positive or negative security decision without any explanation. How far they will go - as far as it takes to have full and clear picture of applicant's past and present activities, involvements and associations.
All of the above has been posted here numerous times, at least few times every month in past several years. Simply do the search in this forum for "criminal check", "background check" and/or "security check" and you will find all those posts, gazillion of them. A little bit of resourcefulness won't hurt - but lack of it is a big minus when it comes to Canadian immigration application.
When you log into this forum click on the "Search this forum" button in blue banner above and enter your keyword, then click "Go" - and voila, you'll get hundreds if not thousands of posts.

The main reason I don't come on this site very much anymore is because of all the negativity & pompousness of the regulars on here. Boogieman apogised in advance for the repetitiveness of his question - yes, it may well have been on here a gazillion times before but he's only been a member for a month or so!!! He says he's not happy with the answers he has searched for so why shouldn't he ask again!! This site is here to help people after all - or so I thought.
If people are so sick of the question then why do they bother to answer the post.
So Boogieman .... ask any questions you want to, ignore any shitty comments you may get & use the information that folks give. After all - if you offer your help for free, dont complain that people may ask repeated questions.... we are all human after all and this site wouldn't exist at all if people stop asking questions because they are too worried that the regulars are going to be nasty in their replies!!
