I am wondering what kind of checks are performed after the IA ? Do they talk to the government services or simply verify the information provided in the application ?
My concern is that my current boss is likely to be in Italy for a few months at the time of background check and he may be only available through e-mail. Is it a problem for Buffalo ? Also, my first employer (from 1994-1996) cannot speak English. How will the visa officer deal with such a case ?

Background checks are not about you employment skills.

So they will verify my job history and other stuff during IA, including contacting the employers, right ? The question still stands about not being able to just phone a person, will they try to reach him by e-mail (provided in the business card) ?

Hi BartM
If they contact the employer, it usually by phone.

Hi PMM,
So what will they do if they cannot reach someone by phone or the person won't be able to speak English ? Must they get a confirmation from every single employer or like 4 of 5 will be enough ?

They usually have locally engaged staff who make the call and usually speak
the language.
