Default ATTENTION!!: Application Processing times under new Family Class Rules (Spousal etc.)

Hello All,
I submitted my wife's sponsorship papers on March 10th under the
new Spousal rules. The rules have changed as of Feb 17th 2003. Under
the new rules, the medical is done beforehand as well and a completion
form signed by the doctor is attached to the application. The document
checklist for immigrant is upgraded alongwith some other forms in the
kit.

I recieved the response on March 24th that my sponsorship app had been
accepted and that the documents have been forwarded to Islamabad.

Questions:

1. Does anyone happen to know what the new timelines maybe? The CIC
phone person in Toronto said 6 to 8 months if you submit under new
rules (medical upfront).

2. My sponsorship was approved in 12 days, is it fast, or just about
the same?

I ask q.2 because I'm just trying to extrapolate the time it would
take to complete the full process.

Am I being over optimistic thinking it might be less than 6 months?
Could Mr. Miller or some other knowledgable person shed some light on
this if you have time?

Please relate your experiences if you have some insight to share.

Thanks,

-A

It would be a miracle to have it completed in Islamabad in 6 months - so,
don't keep your hopes high. Brace yourself for 8 to 12+ months at best.

Due to long time needed to conclude background/security check in China
spousal cases in Beijing take even longer than same in Islamabad. Hong Kong
for HK nationals/residents used to be faster as long as sponsored spouse
didn't reside outside HK, especially in mainland China.

I think you will find that the problem in Asia is one of volume only.
As for Security Checks in China they are non existent as there is no
aggrement between Canada and China on Security matters. Do you think
that China will open thier files to Canada. It does not happen. I
imagine it is a question of profiling only.
