Applying for PR visa
Hi,
I'm a Sri Lankan citizen currently under F1 (student) visa in USA
doing my 2 year practical training. I'm planning to apply for PR
(under-skilled worker) visa.
Since I have US visa till 2012 I can apply from Buffalo, NY which is
faster than applying from SL. But then found out that when you are
applying through Buffalo you have to go through the regular process &
hence have to show the required funds ($10k - which I don't have now)
and submit other documents like Police report, IELTS scores, etc..
with the application. Can someone please guide me whether this is a
must or are there any workarounds for this?
Also if I'm showing my bank statements- I can ask for money from
someone & get a statement with the required amount. But is there any
time-frame that required amount of money should be in the account?
Thanks,
Chamila

Hi
1. Only work around is to apply to Colombo, Buffalo only accepts full applications.
2. The money is supposed to be yours, whether you apply to Buffalo or Colombo you are supposed to meet the qualifications at the time of application, one of which is settlement funds.

This article might help:
http://cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/funds.asp
Note the bit where it says 'You cannot borrow this money from another person'. Also, if you don't have the funds as required then how are you going to afford to settle in Canada, bearing in mind you'll need to pay rent, a deposit on a property, buy or hire a car, lots of other miscellaneous expenses, plus supporting yourself until you find a job. That $10k is really the minimum you will need just for the first few months!! So do make sure you have it anyway.
Best of luck.

Thanks for the replies guys.
But to process it take minimum 12 months & I'm currently working so I can earn that money by that time. Plus I have my siblings there . That's why I thought of getting some money from somewhere else for now.

Re: Applying for PR visa
1. Go you have at least 67 points?
2. Do you have at least 12 months of paid, continuous, full time (or full time equivalent) of work experience in skilled occupation?
3. Do you have minimum settlement funds at the time of application?
4. Will your occupation be included on soon to be published list of occupations in high demand or do you have arranged employment in Canada?
The answer "NO" to any of the above makes your case impossible.
