Default Apply from Within or POE?

Hi...
I am getting married July 6th, and originally we planned for me to come back to Canada as a visitor, then apply for my landed immigrant status.

I'm currently 6 1/2 months pregnant if that has any bearing on things.

We're considering when we re-enter after the wedding just telling them that we're newly married and I'm going to apply from within for my status. At which point, they will probably reject me. And then hopefully give me an interview right then. Allowing me to get a ministers permit until the time it takes to get my application done.

Does this seem like a prudent way to do things? With the baby coming we cannot wait outside the country for months while things are being reviewed.

Thanks in advance.

Where are you getting married? Will you be travellign back with yoru husband? If you
turn up at the border with yoru husband who is i presume a Canadian citizen, and you
are completely honest and tell them you just got married, you want to apply inland,
you are pregnant etc, i think you have a very strong chance they will admit you
anyway and give you a visitors record. I have heard of many couples doing this,
although mainly from the USA and at land borders, i presume you are from the UK as
you are posting here via the britishexpats website. Also if they cannot admit you
then yes i presume you will be interviewed anyway while they are deciding wether to
admit you and you can apply for a ministers permit. Someone i spoke to from the UK
had a similar incident where she was misinformed and sodl her house her ein UK and
took her kids out of school and turned up at the border thinking she could enter and
apply inland and they told her she could nto do that, so they let her apply for
minsiters permits (pricey at $200 each) but still it got her in so she could apply
inland. so i think either they will let you in or they will grant you a ministers
permit, i can't see them sending you back on an airplane and splitting a pregnant
woman up from her husband and sending her away on her own, they might be strict but
they arent completely inhuman hehe.

Actually, I'm a US citizen...but its so hard to find forums that are actually active! So I thought I'd post here.

We're getting married in California, and yes we're returning together.

Thanks.

You reallyy dont't give much info on where you are, if your husband is a Cdn or
whatever. If you get married and come to a POE - tell the truth about your intentions
all the time. If you are visa exempt chances are they will allow you to be processed
in Canada. Just a tought- you wil not be covered by provincial health insurance for
the birth of the baby and you should make plans to pay for the medical costs.

I'm sorry...

I'm a US citizen. Husband to be is Canadian. We live in Ottawa.

We've got the plan in place for the delivery of the baby already. I've been in Canada for a couple months already now, and I've been getting taken care of here.

I am visa exempt because I'm a US citizen.

Thanks everyone...

The strategy that you describe is certainly viable and will likely be successful in
your case, but you should be prepared to be turned away at the port of entry in the
worst case scenario. The decision to admit any visitor is highly discretionary, which
makes it difficult to predict in advance; the same applies to Minister's Permits.

In such case you have pretty good chance to get admitted, although there is no
guarantee. Just as Jim wrote - be honest, tell your story and indicate your
intentions up front. Ask for visitor record if you get lucky to be admitted without
Minister's Permit as you will need such VR down the road to extend your visitor
status while PR application is in process. If not admitted as visitor then
immediately ask for Minister's Permit. Good luck.

But you still need a Visitor Record (because you are visa exempt) to extend your
visitor status before 6 months lapses from your entry, unless you will be granted a
Minister's Permit at POE.
