Default Applied for pnp what if twp expires before?

Arrived in Alberta with OH and kids mid August. His employer has sponsored him and recently applied for pnp, but according to the cic website, processing times are currently 25 months! Only had a one year twp, what happens when this expires? He's a welder/pipefitter foreman.

If you receive nomination approval from Alberta (which I believe takes anywhere from 12 months upwards - you can check here AINP processing times | Alberta Canada - Alberta, Canada) you can obtain a TWP on the back of the nomination.

Temporary Foreign Worker Program: Canada–provincial or territorial agreements [R204(c)] (exemption code T13)

The 25 months you quoted is for the Federal part of the application, once you have been nominated and you submit your application for PR to CIC.

Thanks for reply. So OH will have to apply for an extension or new twp, because it looks like his current one will expire before he hears anything about his pnp, is that right? I read that you still have to have a valid work permit whilst the pnp is being processed, otherwise it could be declined. Do you know if we could renew the twp at the border?

If you have received the letter of nomination from the AINP you can get a new work permit at the border for $155. You can also extend online via the CIC website by submitting the AINP letter. Your choice IMHO the border is quicker.

Does the letter of nomination not take very long then? What if we don't hear anything before his permit expires? The thought of going back to the UK gives me shivers!

The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) has issued all 5,500 certificates for the year 2014. No further certificates will be issued until January 2015. See the related News Release for more information.

Processing times vary dependent on stream applied under. read this link for processing times.

You may have to use the online extension for the TWP until nomination letter is received and a new work permit issued on the back of the nomination letter.
