Applied for citizenship!
Hi all,
I sent off my citizenship application on Tuesday the 1st of September. I understand this may take forever due to Covid and I was wondering if there is some form of citizenship tracker thing on here. I recall there was one for PR applications when I did that 4 years ago on here but I cannot seem to find that now either?
What can I expect through the process? Hoping I get some form of official confirmation they have received my application at some point this week or next week or should I expect to hear nothing?
Thanks guys!

Congratulations!
I will be more than a little interested to see the replies to your question as my wife is likely to be applying for citizenship in Q2/3 2021.

I sent mine in June/July, not expecting an AOR until maybe November and as above I suspect it will take something like 2 years to process. As far as I'm aware no tests have been carried out since March so there will be a huge backlog all along the process.
I may be wrong but I fully expect the immigration system to be focused on progressing other streams as a priority (i.e. people who do not currently have status) over nationality applications. Not fun for us but them's the breaks.

Pre Covid it took us 3 months to get an AOR.
We were “in process” Feb 24th and nothing since.
From what I can see people who sent their apps in Feb are starting to get AORs. So I would settle down and expect an AOR sometime after Xmas.

This is probably a non-starter, but...
if I reach 1095 days in Canada Q2 next year, and it might take 2 years to process, at what point must residency be met? At time I sign the application, or when it’s finally looked at?
(Any merit to trying now?!)

Re: Applied for citizenship!
It must be met at the time you send in the application
You must be eligible for Canadian citizenship the day before you sign the application form or earlier.

Re: Applied for citizenship!
So say for someone keen to get their citizenship asap could they in theory put in the application prior to completing the necessary residency knowing/hoping that by the time it was processed they would have the 3 years in the bag or is it necessary to have done 3 years before the point of application?
That's the question I asked, and FL said no, you can't sign the application until the day after you become eligible.

So spend 3 years straight, apply for citizenship, then bugger off and hope oath happens within the following 2.5 years

Hi guys. So I sent in my citizenship application in on the August 31st of this year. Looks like I will have to get the PR card renewed and that may well take forever also. Does the existing PR card have to be sent away or do I just complete a new application for a new PR card?

- your PR card:
- If you are applying to renew your card, keep your current card and include a photocopy of it with your application.
