I applied in August 2008 and I am currently 30, but will be entering Canada next month. It's gotta' be worth calling BUNAC up and just clarifying it for your own peace of mind... |

Well I just applied for my place anyway. This is my last chance to get onto the programme. The form itself said I had to be 30 to enter, but on their FAQ page it says something else:

To clarify to anyone in the same boat. If you are applying to go through BUNAC and you are 30, you can still go up until Jan the following year, so long as you apply for the visa before you turn 31. Here's the response I got from BUNAC regarding their online application:
The Work Canada programme is available to those aged 18-30 inclusive. This means that, as long as you are issued with the visa before your 31st birthday, you will still be able to enter Canada after you have turned 31. There is an error with our on-line application form which we are aware of and are currently in the process of rectifying. The way to complete the application form at the moment is to enter a departure date before your 31st birthday. You will still be able to enter Canada in January 2010 if you wish and this will not affect your application. The 12 months in which you have to live and work in Canada will not begin until you enter the country. Best Regards, BUNAC |

Here are the ammendments to the WHV programme which were announced early this year if I remember right. The Canadian High Commission has informed us about a change in their policy which may affect some people who are currently on Work Canada. Anyone with dependents are no longer eligible for the open work authorisation which is the work permit you obtain through Work Canada. You are considered to have dependents if: I. You have a Canadian fiancé(e)/husband/wife/common law partner OR II. You have a British fiancé(e)/husband/wife/common law partner who IS NOT also applying for this programme. If you have a British partner* who is also participating on Work Canada then you ARE both still eligible to go on the programme. If you feel this change will affect you please contact us immediately. * Partner means engaged, married, or have lived together for more than twelve months. So based on all that, you should be eligible to apply as you are not living together or married now. The question is if CIC care that you get married after you are accepted onto the programme, and that is a question for Bunac. Best of luck! If they're both planning to go on the BUNAC then it doesn't matter if they're married/common law etc. The only problem is if you have a Canadian partner or you have a UK partner that isn't also going on the BUNAC visa. So - they're both eligible as long as they apply together. |
