I know somebody who got his visa about 1 1/2 months before his medical expires. To be exact, he took his medical on June 22, 2002 and he got his passport in the last week of May. So that leaves him with less than a month to prepare.
My husband applied last 2000 and we were given notice early this year that we will be assessed under the new law.
Please share your timeline.
Thank you and best regards.

Hi stillw8ing,
Actually, what frustrates me is the fact that I've already undergone two full medical exams. The first onw was in Jan of 2002 and it expired so I was asked to do meds again. I really hope I wouldn't have to wait so long again to hear a decision. Worst, I hope I wouldn't be asked to take a third medical exam!
Applied MArch 2001
Addtl docs Aug 2001
Waiver Nov 2001
First med exam Jan 2002
Second med exam April 2003
Still waiting for final decision...
applied under independent category
I hope the embassy will clear up the pre-new law applications soon.

Hi jenyapching,
I think that's what they're doing right now, i.e. clearing up pre-new law applications. Based on the experiences of my friends, it seems that it takes around 10 months for the Embassy to send the letter requesting for the passport. I've read somewhere that it takes around 2 to 4 months for the medicals to reach Ottawa, where they are assessed. So you can just imagine the red tape involved. Hang in there! :-)
I've read in one of your previous posts that your sister has also been waiting in limbo since she was advised that an interview is needed to process her application. Can you please share her timeline? Was she also asked to submit updated IRPA forms/documents? Did she take the IELTS?
I look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks and best regards.

My sister applied in August 2000. She was asked to fill out new forms
and send it to the embassy. I am still not sure if she has done that
already.
I have a friend who applied in Aug 2000 as well. He was asked to
submit new forms too. He also took the IELTS. Based on new laws, he'll
fall short of the 70 pts because he's single and doesn't have a
relative in Canada. He hasn't received new assessment though.
I hope I was able to help .

Hi Reina,
Thanks for your reply. What scores did your friend get on his IELTS?
I do hope we'll all hear from the Embassy soon.
Thanks again.

I don't know what score he got but he said it wasn't so bad except for the listening part . But even with max points for English proficiency, he's still a few points short of the 70 pts.
I did receive a letter from the embassy last April 9 2003 asking me where my med results are. I had to call the clinic where I had my med exam to follow it up. I guess that means that the embassy did look at my file at that time and found out that my med results hasn't been submitted to them yet.
