Any recent Vancouver landers?
We are landing in October and returning to UK for a couple of years before moving over permanently. Just a bit confused as to the goods to follow list in this case. Some people have been told it's not needed if you are using a shipping company, as they do it when you move your stuff over. Others, I believe, have had to produce their list at immigration. Can anyone who is in a similar position and who has recently landed at Vancouver share their experiences of this?
Also, there seemed to be a few posters who landed in April whose Canadian address for PR cards was refused due to the fact they had put 14 days on their landing cards and, said the IMMO, would not be in Canada to receive the cards. I know this was not common. Have recent landers been told the same, or was this just a jobsworth officer?
Any info, as always, much appreciated.

It depends on the IO, if he/she is new or got up on the wrong side of the bed, you might have an issue. But I think, most of the time, its ok.

Re: Any recent Vancouver landers?
Hi,
I landed mid-June and had quite a good experience, despite the long journey to get there. Officer checked through all the forms and visa's, took quite a while to process them, but did not ask for goods to follow or even proof of funds. Explained that we were only landing staying for 14 days, returning to the UK to sort things out, and then moving out at a later date. He gave us a form to fill in for when we have a permanent address out in Canada so they can send PR cards - he said if it is before 6 months, great, it will be free. If it is longer than 6 months, then it is $50 per card.
Hope this helps

Also landing in October .. same situation .. only staying for a week .. [half term] and returning to UK to finish up sale of house etc !
The authorities must come across this situation often .. after all .. on all documentation it clearly states do not sell your home or leave your job etc.. until you have PR .. I received PR in May .. and have to land before Dec 9th ! So its a tight timetable to sell up etc !
As you say .. hopefully it was a jobsworth !

Yup, we're doing half-term as well. We have until end Jan to land, but don't want to take kids out of school unless necessary and Christmas prices rather high. See you in the queue!

We are planning to 'land' in the October half term too - just for the week and then return to the UK for a year before finally committing to Canada, it's interesting to read what others are doing. We have decided that we are going to give a friends address in Canada - hopefully the IO will be ok with this and not question that we are only there for a short stay - this time!
