Default Alberta TWP advice needed please

Current situation is that I have received a positive LMO. As we intend flying out in January the consultant I am using has said she will apply for to London for the TWP at the end of October. However following a visit to the Emigrate 2 show today and speaking with an officer from the High Commission in London, she has advises that as the TWP would be for longer than 6 months we would need medical examination certs! Has anyone else had to undertake these as it's news to me. Also, has any one just gone over with their LMO, job offer etc and applied at port of entry for TWP?

Thanks in advance

Short answer is YES. Turn up at the airport with your LMO, your job offer, education credentials and anything else useful. Put in a nice clean folder clearly categorized and labelled. Don`t get drunk on the plane and make sure you have $150 ready for the work permit at the Immigration Office of the airport.

You do not need any medical certs for a TWP at point of entry. I wasn`t asked for one but i did have a police crime report and a medical cert in case i was asked for it.

Apparently they are being stricter these days with the TWP, so you might only get issued for one year. I got it for two last year in January 2009.

Just my experience...

Out of curiosity, were you on your own at POE? And does it make if difference if wife and kids are in toe

Depends on your job to whether you need a medical or not and this includes obtaining TWP at POE. If your job is in the medical field then generally you need a medical before a TWP is issued

Just to clarify for the sake of anybody else reading, that certain professions (i.e. working with children or in healthcare) do require a medical for a TWP.

Paul - I wouldn't assume that the lady from the High Commission knows what she's talking about. She may have misunderstood your question, or just not know the correct information. Best to double check it for yourself.
